My mother visited my great-aunt and returned with the day-planners/journals of Thomas Monroe McGraw, my great-great-great grandfather. The journals date from 1904, 1908, and 1919.
The journals are filled with short updates of 2 to 20 words in length, covering everything from "sick at home" to his travels around the country for ministry which include number of miles traveled and mode of transportation. My favorite entry so far is from May 26, 1904:
"Dinner 25 cents.
Went to White House.
Shook hands with the President.
In Washington."
My great-great-great grandfather shook hands with Teddy Roosevelt like it was nothing. I don't get to keep the journals, just borrow them for a short while. I'll document what I can of his ministerial travels and post about them, I'll get more information on Saturday when I go to my great-aunt's for dinner.
Also, I promise to post about my travels to Louisiana and Kentucky soon; the baptisms and the 10th anniversary of St Athanasius OCA were such blessings.
